K-CULTURE · KOREAN TABLE TRADITIONS
Ssam (쌈) means “wrap” in Korean. Place meat and your favorite accompaniments inside a fresh leaf, fold it into a bite, and enjoy many flavors and textures together.

WHAT IS SSAM?
Ssam is one of Korea’s most loved ways to enjoy meat and shared dishes. A lettuce or perilla leaf becomes an edible wrapper for meat, ssamjang, garlic, chili, kimchi, or other banchan. There is no single “correct” combination — part of the fun is making each bite your own.
WHY KOREANS LOVE SSAM
Fresh greens brighten rich, savory meat and bring crisp texture to every bite.
More ssamjang? Extra garlic? Kimchi too? Everyone can build a wrap exactly the way they like it.
Ssam naturally fits the Korean table, where dishes are placed in the center and shared with family and friends.
Meat, greens, sauce and banchan come together at once — savory, fresh, spicy, tangy and crunchy.
HOW TO MAKE SSAM
There are no rigid rules. This is an easy starting point for your first JCDKR ssam.
1
Start with a fresh lettuce leaf and open it in your hand.
2
Lightly dip the Jokbal in saeujeot, then place it on the lettuce.
3
Add a little ssamjang, sliced garlic, and jalapeño.
4
Fold the lettuce around the filling so everything stays neatly tucked inside.
5
Wrap it completely into a bite-size bundle and enjoy it in one bite.
TRY IT AT JCDKR
Take a tender slice of Jokbal or Bossam, add fresh greens and your favorite accompaniments, and discover how each wrap can taste a little different. Ssam turns the meal into something you build, share and experience together.
